Every year on 23 September, the world observes the International Day of Sign Languages, a day dedicated to recognising the importance of sign languages and promoting inclusion for deaf people. The day was officially recognised by the United Nations in 2017.
Why Sign Language Matters
Sign language is an important form of communication for many deaf and hard-of-hearing people. It helps people express themselves, connect with others, access education and participate in everyday life.
Sign languages are also complete natural languages, with their own grammar and structure. Supporting sign language helps create more inclusive communities where everyone can communicate and participate.
Supporting Better Hearing and Communication
At Audibel Kenya, we understand that hearing plays an important role in communication and daily life. We provide hearing healthcare services including hearing tests, consultation and counselling, hearing aid fitting, and aural rehabilitation.
International Day of Sign Languages is an opportunity to raise awareness about hearing loss, communication and the importance of creating environments where everyone feels included.
Creating a More Inclusive World
Inclusion starts with understanding. Learning about sign language, supporting people with hearing loss and making communication accessible can help build stronger communities.
This International Day of Sign Languages, let us celebrate communication, inclusion and the right of everyone to be heard and understood.
